Upholstery cleaning in Frederick
Upholstery cleaning, fabric by fabric
Every piece is tested before it is cleaned: cotton, wool, rayon, silk and synthetics each get their own method.
The fabric test comes before the wand
A sofa is not a bigger carpet. Cotton, wool, rayon, silk and synthetic blends all react differently to water, heat and cleaning solution, and a cushion can look fine from across the room while its dye is ready to move. So the first thing a Spectrum technician does is stop and read the piece: how durable the fabric is, what it is made of, and the condition it is in today.
That pre-test happens before any wand touches the furniture, in the same walk-through that opens every visit. It tells the technician whether the job is a gentle overall clean, a careful spot-by-spot one, or a conversation about what the fabric can safely take. That is a conversation worth having before water goes anywhere near your cushions.

Method follows the fibre
Cotton and synthetics generally tolerate more moisture. Wool, rayon and silk want a lighter hand: less water, less agitation, and close attention to how the piece will dry. Rayon can mark and shrink when it is overwet, and silk is the fabric where a rushed clean costs you the most. Choosing the method fibre by fibre is the real work. The equipment is the easy part.
The technicians are IICRC-certified, and on upholstery they work with an extraction wand and a spray bottle, treating the arms, seats and cushions on their own terms rather than running one setting across the whole piece. Stains on the seat and wear on the arms are not the same problem, and they are not cleaned as if they were.
Drying, protection and what to ask
Upholstery dries on its own schedule, which depends on the fabric, the filling and how much air moves through the room. Ask the technician for a realistic window rather than assuming the carpet's. Keep cushions upright and off damp surfaces until they are dry, and don't sit on a seat that still feels wet.
If you want a protector on a fabric afterward, ask at the walk-through whether it makes sense for that piece. When the couch is one you can't replace, say so up front, as the reviewer below did about a white CB2 sofa that is no longer made. Durability, composition, condition
The three things read on every piece before any cleaning starts.
“I have this gorgeous white couch from CB2 that they don't make anymore. Because of SPECTRUM, I feel like I got a brand new one!”
Upholstery often goes hand in hand with a carpet cleaning, a pet smell handled through odor control, or a rug that leaves the room for the warehouse wash. The full list is on the services page.
