Duct cleaning in Frederick

Dust, allergens and contaminants cleared out of the HVAC run, so the air that reaches your rooms is not picking up old debris on the way.

What collects inside the HVAC run

Every time the furnace or air conditioner runs, the air in your house travels through the ducts. Dust, pet dander, pollen and other contaminants settle on the inside walls of that run, out of sight, and some of it is carried back out through the registers into the rooms you live in.

That is the reason for duct cleaning. It removes the dust, allergens and contaminants that have built up in the system, so the air moving through your vents is not carrying a layer of old debris with it.

You usually cannot judge a duct from the register. A flashlight shows the first few inches, and build-up tends to gather further in, around bends, at the boot behind each register and where the branches meet the main trunk. Houses with pets, a recent renovation or a busy household tend to put more into the air to begin with, and all of it eventually finds the same filter and the same run of metal.

How the system gets cleaned

Duct cleaning generally works from the registers inward. The register covers come off and go onto a drop cloth, which keeps grit off your floors, and the open duct boot gives access to the run behind it.

Debris is loosened from the duct walls with brushes or air, then pulled out with strong suction so it leaves the house instead of moving into another room. The registers and grilles themselves sit right in the airflow and collect dust too, so they are cleaned before they go back on.

Every house has a different layout, a different number of returns and a different length of run. Estimates come after the details of your system are known, so describe what you have when you reach the office at (301) 662-8200.

Efficiency and indoor air afterwards

A clear run lets air move the way the system was designed to, which helps the efficiency of the HVAC system. Dust and debris that restrict airflow ask the blower to work harder for the same result in the room.

The other benefit is the air itself. Fewer dust and allergen sources inside the ducts means fewer of them pushed into the bedrooms and living room each time the system starts. That matches the aim behind everything Spectrum does: a healthy indoor environment, with the dirt, grime, odors and irritants that trigger allergic reactions removed.

Duct cleaning pairs naturally with a carpet cleaning visit, because both go after what settles in a house over time. If you are already booking one, mention the other when the office calls you back. Dust that drops out of the air lands on the floor, and carpet is where a house keeps most of it, so the two jobs look after the same problem from opposite ends.
